Urban Decay

Bruce and I finally had our "Grownup " weekend in Marseilles while the kids had a kiddie getaway (we called it kiddie Spa) at some friends of ours in Beaune.
We walked around absorbing the city. We took the train, stayed out late, slept in and had some wonderful meals, great wine and good uninterrupted conversations.
Infinitely more multi-cultural than Dijon, we were anticipating burning buses on the anniversary of last years riots. Yet through all this, this port town manages to have the same grace as any other French city...gleaming mediterranean seas, breathtaking architecture, cafes by the water and more dog shit than you can shake a stick at....
Marseilles though beautiful is skanky with urban decay and celebrates graffiti in a way I have never seen before, almost as if it has been legitimized, gentrified, and then sprayed over...the elegant whore in faded red silk who has seen better days...
LOVE...

Came by via Coffee House Chatter. That's graffit? I don't whether to be impressed or, stunned? But still amazingly beautiful in a bizzare sort of way.
