So we are all ready to go south to the Moselle Valley, we decided not to get on a plane and use up some of those frequent flier points because well, because it might just be nice to save some money for a change instead of spending it.

I ordered the guide books on Amazon UK a few weeks ago so we have all the maps and stuff we need to figure out what we want to do, and I have spent the day, nay the week getting organized, preparing food, doing the groceries, doing laundry and sorting through kids clothes trying to predict what the weather will be (??) and taking care of the kids at the same time. I swear if anyone had told me that parenting means that I have also to take care of everyone else's STUFF all the time I might have signed up for beach volley ball instead...

*big sigh*

TBG has been here for the week and we are all pretty much burnt out, the kids are ratty. TBG is ratty and yeah, I am pretty ratty too. So we spent the morning doing the last bit of packing and the kids were awful. They are going through a fearful period where they need to know where we are every -and I mean every second. I can't go downstairs into the basement to switch the laundry without plaintive cries wondering where I am, and while I am trying to respect and honour this as a stage... I must confess it is wearing a bit thin.

*UNDERSTATEMENT*

I must confess I am having a bit of a sense of humour failure...what with fighting whining kids and a ratty husband...

On another tack our Irish babysitter Betty, known to the kids as "Betty -Spaghetti" who is in her early 50's, about 6 feet tall, has gorgeous bright red hair, an indomitable spirit and an unfailing sense of humour is a boon to us all. When TBG is away she helps occasionally with the kids, and does a lick of cleaning and ironing every now and then. She seems completely non plussed by the kids yelling and screaming and I have always admired her calm, thinking it is just another element f her kind and generous and centred personality. Then one day I saw her adjusting her hearing aid...

Turning it down it seemed to me...

So are ya going or not? There are times when family life is just not so much fun. Eldest right now woul be generously called ratty....generously. OMG. Every. Little. Thing is wrong, and just so you know it is all MY fault.

Fun wow.

Hope life there improves. Then again, you blog more when your hiding...

With everyone in ratty mode, sounds like a change of scenery is in order. Hope the trip goes well.

And I so hear you about taking care of everyone else's STUFF...but it does get easier as they get older. You don't have to pack it then - just remind (nag) them to do it!
