Peeve Thing

After all the discussion about all things Thong over at Oreneta Aground I kept typing thing…”Thing” instead of “Thong”.

Thing Thong??

Having just watched Cat in the hat for the first time …Thing 1 and thing 2…and entering the Christmas season…thing thing thing…(think lisp)

I mean I guess maybe it has its place like “something” or it’s a “funny thing” or even more specifically “The Thing” of Hollywood fame…” but the garden variety word just plain old “thing”…just too nondescript for me.

Like when someone says to me;

“Can you get that thing over there for me…?”

It always leaves me gaping blankly for MORE INFORMATION and then I am forced to say….

“Ahhhhh….hm…(pause) looking wildly around……what thing?”

Sometimes I wonder if (wish) it IS exactly the “Thing” all green and slimy dripping with orange moss and sprouting stiff black hair lurking…

Then whoever has asked for the “THING” shoots over a look of complete contempt as if you are utterly inept and only half there…

(Ha…(dark look) I’m not the one who couldn't conjure up the name for the thing…)

There should be a law against words like thing…

You've got to love it when that happens during a (sailing)race....."quick, take up on that thing.... NOW! NOW!!! NOW!!!!!!!"

Obnoxious.

Damn useful word when you don't speak the language well...."Ummm, I need a thing, that will...."
