Don't know, tons of people do it, and I have one set of friends with a web site that contains countless photos of their kids tooling aroundin their knickers...standard fashion for cruiser kids. Cuts down on the laundry too. I think they go WAY to far. I don't post them, the cops who come to the schools and deliver the internet safety lectures don't think we should, for me the weight of pressure from my family leaves me on the don't post side.
I think something creepy happening is pretty unlikely though....how many English speaking psychos in your patch of France are going to haunt your blog thoroughly enough to find your kids....
Ya...the challenge for me tho is that I post to keep up with the F&F at home... guess I could keep the writing a little more anonymous amd post a web album with restricted entry...??
I am naive tho that is for sure...still dreamily thinking there are no bad guys out there...
Tough call (not about you being an idiot - you aren't.) My husband didn't even really want me posting that picture of our backyard for Oreneta! I'm like - "How is any weirdo going to find us from that picture??" My kids are all older so it's more a matter of respecting their privacy rather than protecting them. I've only posted one "recent" photo of one of my kids and he wanted me too. You wanting family to be able to see your kids in picture makes sense. Maybe a private album is the way to go (Photobucket, E-snips)? But I figure if you keep it vague and unclear as to where you live, you'll be "safe."
Maybe I am naive too, but I don't think there are a lot of pedaphiles surfing blogs. I agree with you that it's a good way to keep in touch with family. Do what feels right to you.
You can post the photos, I think. But if you're worried, and you want family to see the photos, you can always try a password site or a private blog or something ...
... I'd have no problem posting pix of my boy on my blog.
I think the media and movies have blown things way out of proportion. I figure the internet is no different than going out in public...we are generally not followed around by pedophiles or serial killers when we leave the house. But at the same time we don't hand out our phone number and address to everyone we meet either. So if it were upto me I would post pix of my family but since hub isn't comfortable with it, I respect his wishes and don't do it.
I am not SO worried and am inclined to agree with Trish...it would seem like a bit of work to stalk over the net and hey...we come and go from the same door every day...but at the same time I have been wondering if I SHOULD be worried...
A Canadian expatriate living and exploring first France now Germany, then BACK to FRANCE (!!!) with her family; former fashion designer, turned unexpected UNLIKELY NOMAD, raising two children, writing, photographing, painting, playing piano (who knew!!) and blogging - and now... full time student at ART SCHOOL!! (I MUST be crazy!!)
